An unidentified youth was killed when the stolen pickup truck in which he was riding overturned late Sunday in Oceanside.
Manuel Reyes, 22, the driver of the 1976 Ford pickup, is in police custody on suspicion of murder and auto theft, Oceanside officer Rudy Martinez said.
Reyes and his passenger were speeding southbound on Vine Street, just north of Oceanside Boulevard, when Reyes struck a curb, veered across the road, hit three parked cars, knocked down the fence at the Oceanside Inn, and overturned.
Reyes fled the scene but was apprehended, police said. Reyes suffered a bloody nose and minor scrapes.
He was booked into the Vista County jail in connection with murder, fleeing the scene of an injury accident, felony driving under the influence, auto theft and possession of stolen property.
