The plush retailer Bloomingdale’s will close two branch stores in Texas and Connecticut and consolidate store credit operations in a move that will affect nearly 1,100 employees.

“We review all of our stores in terms of profit performance and future potential in the normal course of business,” said Bloomingdale’s Inc. Chairman Marvin Traub in announcing the retailer will close down its Dallas and Stamford, Conn., stores this summer.

“We concluded it is no longer appropriate for Bloomingdale’s to remain in these locations,” he added. “We do, however, still consider both markets to be viable for future stores and we remain open to exploring other options in these areas.”

The Bloomingdale’s Stamford store, which opened in 1954, will close its doors Sept. 8, while the Dallas branch, opened in 1983 during the oil boom, will close Aug. 18.
