Hitachi Ltd. Announces New Chip: Hitachi Ltd. said it had successfully developed a prototype for the new generation of memory chips, a Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM) silicon wafer capable of storing 64 megabits of data. The chip, still in the experimental stages, is two generations ahead of the largest capacity currently in production and is not expected to be ready for commercial production until 1996, the Japanese electronics company said. IBM is said to have already developed a laboratory model of its 64 megabit DRAM.
