Country singing star Clint Black said he didn’t start strumming and crooning to become a sex symbol, but it happened anyway.

“If you asked me about the sex symbol thing six months ago, I would have strayed away from the conversation,” he said. “I would have said, ‘That’s not me.’ Now, it’s getting kind of hard. I know I have to accept it.”

Black, who is scheduled to appear in Dallas on Saturday at a fund-raiser for the American Cancer Society, said his lifestyle makes settling down impossible.

“There’s no way to think about a family now,” he said. “I’m so gone all the time.”

He said he likes to oblige his adoring female fans with autographs and such, but recently turned down a request from a woman who wanted his fingernail clippings.

Black, who has scored a hit with his song “Killing Time,” said he expects his next album to be on sale by autumn.
