Israel’s Modai Urges Unions Not to Strike

Yitzhak Modai, Israel’s new finance minister, Tuesday asked trade unions representing one million workers to cancel a 24-hour general strike scheduled for Thursday.

The powerful trade union federation Histadrut is demanding a long-term agreement with the government to raise salaries and official action to lower the unemployment rate from 9%, near the all-time high.
