Eastern Aims to Boost Image: Struggling Eastern Airlines will launch a multimillion-dollar ad campaign on Sunday that will feature its court-appointed trustee Martin Shugrue promising on-time, friendly service. “Yes,” Shugrue tells workers in one spot, “we have a large, deep hole to climb out of.” The carrier has been in Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization since a crippling strike that began in March 1989.
