Jim Gabarra, who played for the champion San Diego Soccers of the Major Indoor Soccer League, has signed with the Los Angeles Heat of the American Professional Soccer League West.

Gabarra is expected to start at midfield tonight when the Heat plays at the Seattle Storm.

Gabarra, 30, replaces Steve Sharp, who asked for his release but instead was placed on the inactive reserve list. Sharp scored two goals and one assist in limited action.

A native of Connecticut, Gabarra played for the Heat last season, scoring four goals and making three assists. Previously, he played for the United States National and Olympic teams.
