Speedy Scot, Triple Crown Trotter, Dies

Speedy Scot, winner of trotting’s Triple Crown in 1963, died today in his paddock at Castleton Farm, according to farm President John Cashman Jr.

Speedy Scot, bred by Castleton Farm and raced in Castleton Racing Stable, died of natural causes about 30 minutes after being turned out in his paddock.

Besides the Triple Crown triumphs--the Hambletonian, Yonkers Trot and Kentucky Futurity--Speedy Scot also won the International, Challenge Cup and American Trotting Championship at Roosevelt Raceway.

In 1965, he won a special match race called the Dream Trot against Ayres, the winner of the 1964 Hambletonian.

Speedy Scot recorded 44 lifetime victories and $650,909 in earnings before being retired to stud in 1966.

The 30-year-old stallion sired 47 trotters with 2:00 speed marks, including Speedy Crown and Classical Way.

Speedy Scot will be buried on Castleton Farm.
