Court Upholds Decision to Give Land to Dana Point
A state court of appeals in Santa Ana upheld Friday a Local Agency Formation Commission decision that gave a 1.5-mile stretch of prime beachfront to Dana Point in 1988, according to the mayor of Dana Point.
The LAFCO ruling was challenged in court by Laguna Niguel, which asked for the 850-acre section of expensive oceanfront homes known as Monarch Bay to be included within its city boundaries.
“It’s great to get this behind us,” Mayor Eileen Krause said. “I think it shows that the LAFCO decision and the will of the residents involved were rightfully upheld.”
The court ruling follows a Superior Court decision that confirmed the Capistrano Bay Park and Recreation District’s annexation of Monarch Beach.
