Several Japanese personal computer makers may have infringed Texas Instruments Inc.’s microcomputer patents and the U.S. firm is discussing the matter with them, a spokesman for Texas Instruments Japan said today.

“We cannot disclose the names of the Japanese companies involved but I can say that TI has just started negotiating with some computer companies here about possible patent violations,” said Masahiro Miki, manager of corporate market communications at TI’s wholly owned Japanese subsidiary.

Japan’s Jiji Press reported that TI had targeted NEC Corp., Toshiba Corp. and several other companies.
