Harvey R. Gibson; LAPD Police Officer

Harvey R. Gibson, who served on the Los Angeles Police Department for 27 years, has died in Sherman Oaks. He was 68.

Gibson joined the police force in 1947, working in downtown Los Angeles in the traffic division and as a patrol officer. In the mid-1960s, he was transferred to the Van Nuys police station, where he coordinated prisoner transfers to courthouses.

He died Thursday of a heart attack, said his wife, Tenny Gibson.

Born May 21, 1922, in Revere, Mass., he served in the Navy from 1941 to 1947. He retired from the police force in 1974 and then worked for 10 years as a security guard at Universal Studios.

Gibson was a member of Moose Lodge 641 in Glendale and the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, three children, three brothers, four sisters and one granddaughter.

A funeral service was held Monday. Forest Lawn-Hollywood Hills handled the arrangements. Donations can be made in Gibson’s name to the Union Rescue Mission or the Midnight Mission in Los Angeles.
