Running back Tim Spencer on Monday became the third veteran free agent to sign with the Chargers. Tight end Craig McEwen and linebacker Ken Woodard signed earlier. The terms of the contract were not announced.

The Chargers still have 29 unsigned players, including 12 veterans and all 17 of their draft choices. Linebacker Leslie O’Neal and cornerback Gill Byrd are still unsigned, along with No. 1 draft pick linebacker Junior Seau.

This will be Spencer’s sixth season with San Diego. He started 11 of 16 games last season, gained 521 yards, an NFL career high, on 134 carries and scored three touchdowns. He also had 112 yards receiving on 18 catches.
