LAX Officer Sentenced for Molesting 2 Women

A former Los Angeles International Airport police officer who admitted sexually assaulting two women while he was on patrol has been sentenced to two years in prison.

Robert Julian Lopez, 32, made a tearful statement of remorse before he was sentenced by Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Irwin H. Garfinkel, Deputy Dist. Atty. Alan Yochelson said.

Lopez, hired by the airport police department in 1984 and fired following his 1988 arrest, pleaded no contest in April to charges of sexually molesting the women during two separate incidents. In both cases, Lopez ordered women to get in his patrol car and assaulted them.
