A hit-and-run driver struck and killed a Santa Ana pedestrian, dragging him for five blocks before fleeing the scene, police said today.

Damien Juan O’Campo, 23, died from massive head and internal injuries Wednesday night after he was struck while crossing a street with a friend, Santa Ana Police Sgt. Dick Faust said.

O’Campo’s friend, Clemente Rosales, who was also hit, suffered facial cuts and was listed in guarded condition at the UCI Medical Center in Orange.

The two friends were crossing Sullivan Street at Borchard Avenue shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday when they were struck by a car traveling north on Sullivan, Faust said.

Rosales was knocked away from the speeding vehicle while O’Campo tumbled in front and was caught underneath, Faust said.

Faust said the hit-and-run car is a large four-door, either dark or light blue, but police have no further description of the vehicle or its driver.

Anyone who saw the incident or has information about it is asked to call Officer Gary Stover at (714) 834-4211.
