Avery International Corp.: The Pasadena firm said second-quarter profit fell 12% to $21.1 million. Sales totaled $470 million, up 5% from the same period a year ago. The company, which makes self-adhesive base materials, labels and tapes, said profit was affected by market development costs in the European materials business and the slowdown in the U.S. retail department store market.
