Garamendi’s Wife Says She Would Run for His Senate Seat

SACRAMENTO — Patricia Garamendi announced Thursday that she will attempt to succeed her husband, John Garamendi, as a Democratic state senator if he wins the insurance commissioner’s post in November.
The 46-year-old mother of six denied that it was presumptuous for her to start campaigning. “I know I’m running. I know the seat is going to be open, and I need the time to reach this large district,” she said.
The 5th Senate District encompasses parts of eight counties, including Sacramento, San Joaquin, Amador and Calaveras.
Sen. Garamendi, a Walnut Grove rancher and 16-year state legislator, is heavily favored over Republican Wes Bannister, an insurance agent from Huntington Beach.
