Alyeska Charged With Polluting: The Environmental Protection Agency cited Alyeska Pipeline Service Co., which runs the trans-Alaska pipeline terminating in Valdez, for violation of the federal Clean Air Act, a move Alaska officials say will strengthen their own legal case against the company. The EPA charged Alyeska with making operational changes without necessary state permits. The resulting fines could run as high as $25,000 a day.
