Thompson Turns Down Nuggets
John Thompson will remain Georgetown’s basketball coach after rejecting an offer worth at least $6 million to become general manager of the Denver Nuggets, he said Friday.
Thompson, who coached Georgetown to the NCAA title in 1984, considered the offer from the NBA franchise, the first black-owned team in professional sports, for five days.
“I looked at the total package and said, ‘The time is not right,’ ” said Thompson, the 1988 U.S. Olympic men’s basketball coach. He did not elaborate.
