How to get there: Transportation is on TACV out of Boston ($570 round trip) or Lisbon ($495 round trip). TAP Air Portugal also flies from Lisbon.
Weather: Frequently described as dry and arid. In September, its warmest month, it seemed extremely humid, with a temperature of about 85 degrees Fahrenheit and constant northeast winds.
Money: Unit of currency is the Cape Verde Escudo, exchanged at 80 to $1, not convertible outside the country.
Pertinent facts: Visas are required and are obtainable through Cape Verde embassies in Washington or Lisbon, Portugal.
Water is not considered safe to drink, but bottled water, imported from Portugal, is available.
Dining hours are generally from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Language: Official language is Portuguese but Creole, a mixture of Portuguese and African tongues, is most common.
