Win-Win Solution to Market Proposal

Recent articles in The Times have raised questions about the proposed development project at the Farmers Market in the Beverly/Fairfax area, among them the question of increased traffic congestion.

I live in the community and have a business just off 3rd Street between the Farmers Market and Beverly Center. I have been excited about the proposed development ever since I heard about it two years ago. I believe the new stores, restaurants and other facilities proposed under the Farmers Market project will give an economic boost to the area. And, though this may seem strange, I think that they may actually serve as part of the solution to the traffic problem. Traffic around Beverly Center at 3rd and La Cienega is a much bigger problem than it is at Fairfax. It seems to me that new shops at the Farmers Market will draw some of the Beverly Center traffic, spread it more evenly throughout the area and actually lessen some of the congestion.

So, if we can get an exciting new retail center with Nordstrom and Robinson’s and, at the same time, balance out the traffic, then I think we’ve got a win-win situation.
