It’s a Snap

We were doing our best couch-potato act when our Formidable Companion approached. “We haven’t gone out in months,” she sniffed. “I’d like to go see the flamenco performance Monday night at the Broadway Bar and Grill in Santa Monica.” She removed the newspaper covering my face and continued: “Reservations are recommended. I think we better get a move on.” But Lamb Chop, I replied, why pay money to see a bunch of pink birds stand on one leg all night? It was a feeble attempt at humor, I admit. How I longed to tell her that I too shared the flamenco passion, passed on to me by my Gypsy grandfather. He told me that flamenco is a kind of spirited music and dance first performed in southern Spain. Moreover, he explained, there is much fancy footwork, finger-snapping, colorful costumes and volatile guitar playing. A person, he cautioned, could get carried away. I agreed to go. “Wait,” said our Formidable Companion. “You should also know that there’s a 9:30 p.m. dinner show and a 10:45 tapas show. Anyone seeking information should call 393-4211. And oh yeah, the Broadway Bar and Grill is at 1460 Third Street Promenade.” I told her to make the call. Like a flamenco goddess, she threw up her arms, whirled and stamped her way to the telephone.
