Long Beach : Board Cuts $10.2 Million in Voting $369-Million Budget

After making cuts totaling $10.2 million, the school board this week adopted a $369-million budget for 1990-91. But board members may have to make additional cuts later in the year, Supt. E. Tom Giugni warned.

In April, the board eliminated 39 clerical and managerial positions, reduced its custodial staff by 10% and made other cuts. But Giugni said Monday night that the Long Beach Unified School District’s budget may have to undergo further trims if the state cuts funding for schools. On Monday, Gov. George Deukmejian unveiled a list of $3.6 billion of possible budget reductions, including cuts of $800 million from public schools and community colleges.
