Waste Service to Cost $20 a Month
The Palos Verdes Estates City Council Tuesday awarded a five-year contract to Browning-Ferris Industries Waste Systems for the collection and disposal of refuse and the operation of a recycling program for single-family residences.
The new contract, effective Sunday, requires BFI to implement the recycling program over a four-month period.
Residents will pay $20 per month, 66 cents of which will be used to implement a waste management program to meet the provisions of a state law requiring cities to reduce the amount of garbage they deposit in landfills by 50% by the year 2000.
Western Waste, which had previously held the contract, offered a bid of $24.92 per month, which did not include the cost of the waste management program.
