The America’s Cup competition has long been the Cadillac of yacht racing.

Now, Cadillac luxury cars will help sponsor the U.S. vessel that will try to defend the prestigious trophy in 1992.

“We are very interested in the America’s Cup being retained by the United States, and to compete, it will require very substantial technological, administrative support,” said Peter Levin, director of advertising for General Motors Corp.’s Cadillac Division.

The company will provide $3 million and technical support to skipper Dennis Conner.
