Share

West Los Angeles College has received a $75,000 grant for an innovative program to increase the number of minority and bilingual elementary school teachers locally.

The program, funded by the Metropolitan Life Foundation, will encourage high school juniors, particularly minority students, to become teachers. The college will provide participating students with courses at their high schools, and students will have the opportunity to work as classroom assistants in elementary schools after graduation from high school.

The prospective teachers will complete their undergraduate requirements at West Los Angeles College, then transfer to Cal State Dominguez Hills to complete a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies and obtain their teaching credentials.
