What's Needed Is Technical About-Face in Fuel Strategy

Reformulated gasolines now being tested ("Cleaner Gas: Is it Clean Enough?" June 17) are the answer only for the major oil companies' bottom line.

The new fuel strategy being offered is a calculated response to the growing concern over the continued burning of fossil fuels. A cleaner-burning fuel is only a slight adjustment in the preservation of the status quo and hardly the revolutionary technical about-face, such as solar-powered transportation, that we desperately need to develop.
