The Food and Drug Administration today warned pregnant women not to use aspirin during the last three months of pregnancy except on the advice of their doctors.

The FDA said it will require all aspirin and aspirin-containing products to bear a warning on their labels alerting pregnant women to the dangers of taking the drug during their final trimester. Possible problems of taking aspirin during the last three months of pregnancy include effects on fetal circulation and uterine contraction.

The new warning must immediately follow the caution against nursing mothers using aspirin except at the instruction of a physician.
