WORLD IN BRIEF : MEXICO : Police, Troops Hunt 12 Escaped Convicts

Police and army troops fanned out across Mexico’s northern Chihuahua state in search of a dozen inmates who broke out of the state prison after a riot in which four people were killed. Angel Torres, a spokesman for the state government, described the escapees as “drug traffickers and murderers, including one who killed 11 people.” In all, 34 prisoners fled but 22 were recaptured. Torres said a convicted drug trafficker organized the escape but was killed along with another inmate.
