Single-Family Housing Future

Construction of single-family homes in Orange County is apparently going to be at a much slower rate than it has been. Through the first five months of the year, the most recent period for which information is available, just 1,671 permits for single-family homes were issued. That’s a 54% decline from the same period of one year ago and the lowest total for any of the last five years.

Compared to the first four months of last year, 17 cities this year have lower totals, as do those parts of the county that are unincorporated. There are higher totals for nine cities, but large declines in Mission Viejo and Orange, as well as the unincorporated areas, easily offset those gains.
