Hans-Rudolf Kurz; Headed Inquiry Into Waldheim’s Past

Hans-Rudolf Kurz, 75, Swiss military historian who headed an international inquiry into the past of Austrian President Kurt Waldheim. After an extensive examination of Waldheim’s rumored complicity in Nazi war crimes during World War II, Kurz asserted in 1988: “There was no participation in war crimes and no personally culpable conduct by Dr. Waldheim.” Kurz, a colonel in the Swiss army, served as adviser to five defense ministers during his 40-year career in government.
