From Times Staff and Wire Reports

In the wake of numerous complaints about public drunkenness at San Diego State University football games, the authority board of Jack Murphy Stadium has voted to ban beer kegs from the parking lot, unless students hire a caterer and obtain a permit. And, in a move that members of the board acknowledged may spark controversy, they agreed to pass on to the City Council the idea of a total ban on alcohol in the parking lot during all stadium events. At one football game last year, several students were arrested for public drunkenness and one student suffered a broken neck in a fight with security guards. Jim Herrick, associate athletic director at the university, said school officials sought the restrictions on the use of kegs because they believe that “most students are drunk” when they enter the stadium.
