NAACP CONVENTION: Black leaders from throughout the United States will attend the NAACP’s national convention beginning today at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Benjamin Hooks, the organization’s executive director, will open the convention with a 7 p.m. speech.
SKID ROW CAMP: The Fred Jordan Mission begins its third summer camp Monday, offering day activities for inner-city children at MacArthur, Ramona and Holenbeck parks. Camp activities are geared toward those aged 5 to 12.
BLUE LINE: The Blue Line rail system that will link downtown Long Beach to downtown Los Angeles is to begin operations on Saturday. The trains will operate free of charge Saturday and Sunday with regularly scheduled service beginning July 16.
