HUNTINGTON BEACH : District Accepting Trustee Applications

Share

The Huntington Beach Union High School District is accepting applications for candidates to replace school board member David Warfield, who resigned last month.

To avoid scheduling a costly special election to fill the post, board members agreed to appoint someone. They plan to collect applications through the end of the month and appoint Warfield’s successor at a special board meeting Aug. 7.

Warfield, 35, reportedly plans to move to Auburn, northeast of Sacramento, where he will become a high school teacher.

His announcement cut short his second four-year term, to which he was elected last November. His replacement’s term, however, will expire in November, 1991, because the new member will have been appointed, not elected.

Applicants for the position, which pays $400 per month, must be at least 18, registered voters and live within the boundaries of the district, which comprises Huntington Beach and portions of Westminster and Fountain Valley.

Warfield is also leaving as executive director of the labor union for the Coast Community College District. Officials say they plan to choose a replacement next month.
