South Pasadena : Waste-Management Pact
South Pasadena has joined more than a dozen other San Gabriel Valley cities in a collective agreement to meet a state-mandated reduction of solid waste.
The 14-city authority will be responsible for hiring a consultant to oversee the waste-management project. Under California’s 1989 Waste Management Act, cities must reduce landfill disposal 25% by 1995 and 50% by the year 2000.
City officials estimate South Pasadena’s participation in the joint authority will cut estimated costs to $40,000 to $50,000, a savings of about $50,000.
