Introducing Babies to World of Water
For those interested in having their babies learn to swim, here’s a summary of what’s available around the county this summer:
Marjean’s Swimland, Santa Paula. Marjean will teach any age--from babies through grandparents. Swimland guarantees that your child will swim. Ten one-hour lessons. $135. 647-6374.
Pierpont Racquet Club, Ventura. Baby Bubblers class. Two weeks, six lessons, half-hour classes. After six lessons, your child will be mobile in the water. No guarantees. $36. 648-5161.
Oak Ridge Racquet Club, Simi Valley. Parent and child. Ten 25-minute lessons. $41. 522-5454.
The Ventura YMCA offers a “Skipper Class” for infants 6 months or older. It’s an introduction to the water. Main objective is a smooth introduction to the water. 25-minute classes. $28. 647-2131.
The city of Ventura offers Mom, Dad & Me classes for ages 6 months to 2 years. Two weeks. $20-$25. 654-8922.
The Santa Barbara, Montecito and Thousand Oaks YMCA’s are among other area YMCA’s offering instruction. Some start as early as 3 months.
Pleasant Valley Recreation and Park District offers programs for all ages. Ten 50-minute classes, $20. 482-1996.

Easter Seal in Ventura offers infant classes in a 95 degree pool, but not until mid-summer because of the illness of infant instructor Dawna Rhodes. 647-2131.
