Partnership in Mexico: Peridian, an Irvine landscape architecture firm, has formed a partnership south of the border with an architecture firm in Mexico.
The association with Gomez Vazquez Aldana, a Guadalajara firm, should give Peridian a leg up in Mexico, where landscape architecture is not a registered profession, a Peridian spokeswoman said.
“And we don’t have to go in and set up a new office and deal with government regulations,” said Lisa Monks, in charge of marketing for Peridian. “You can get into a lot of headaches when you want to open an office abroad.”
Peridian met the Mexican firm four years ago in the resort town of Cabo San Lucas when Gomez Vazquez was designing a Hyatt resort hotel and Peridian was designing the landscaping. Since then the two companies have designed several more resorts in Mexico.
Forty-year-old Peridian, based in Irvine, also has offices in Orlando, Fla., San Diego and Walnut Creek. It employs 105 people.
Peridian has also done work in Japan, Europe, Africa, Australia and Tahiti, and so is part of a long-established trend: Orange County’s big planning and architecture industry has been picking up business abroad and elsewhere in the United States for years.
In fact, the whole industry is becoming more international. Gomez Vazquez Aldana, for instance, also has an office in Houston.
