NATION IN BRIEF : NEW YORK : Psychiatric Testing Ordered in Dart Case
The man charged with blowing darts at women in skirts claimed innocence and said the real “dartman” came from an island where provocatively dressed women are tossed into volcanoes, a New York City prosecutor said Friday. Jerome Wright, 33, was ordered to undergo psychiatric evaluation after policemen at a hearing disclosed the rambling, incoherent statement he made after being charged in the attacks. Wright, who did not enter a plea at the hearing, is due back in court on Aug. 8. He could face up to seven years in prison. At least 55 women reported being attacked in Manhattan by a man who blew darts at their backsides.
