Government Sting Used Against Washington’s Mayor Barry

Jackson made a true statement at the end of his column: “And more and more the government is suffering from a crisis of trust and confidence.” Add the following to the job the Feds did on Barry:

The savings and loan mess; the debacle left by Ronald Reagan’s HUD and the failure to go after the crooks; the fact that many working people pay more FICA than income tax; the income tax bubble; the proposal to cut capital gains taxes; the Supreme Court condoning the act of levying taxes by the federal judiciary; using the Social Security fund to mask the deficit.

All of these things have been in the media. Since so few people inform themselves and vote, politicians and bureaucrats have nothing to worry about. In another generation, we will be another dusty Third World republic.
