WORLD IN BRIEF : MIDEAST : Boycott Targets Aid to Jewish Emigres
Arab states said they will boycott companies and other institutions that help Jews immigrate to Israel. Foreign ministers from the 22-member Arab League, meeting in Tunisia, said in a statement that the influx of Jews poses “a very grave threat to national security, to the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people and to peace efforts.” More than 50,000 Soviet Jews have immigrated to Israel so far this year. At their two-day meeting, the diplomats also supported the Palestine Liberation Organization’s rejection of U.S. demands for resuming a dialogue.
