Seven more members of the Soviet Parliament announced today that they were quitting the Communist Party.

The seven lawmakers said they were dropping out of the party “to facilitate the process of democratizing the country.”

The current wave of defections follows Boris N. Yeltsin’s announcement last week to the party’s 28th Congress that he was quitting the party.
