Walnut : City Studies Fireworks Ban

Share

The city may snuff out legal fireworks by next Fourth of July.

Concerned by the number of fireworks-related complaints from city residents during the last holiday, Mayor Bert Ashley called for a meeting with the service groups that sell fireworks and with homeowner associations to discuss a possible ban. Even the operators of the stands are “having second thoughts about selling even ‘safe and sane’ fireworks,” Ashley said.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported nine fireworks-related incidents in Walnut on July 4.

So far, only one council member, Dr. William Choctaw, a burn specialist, has publicly urged the city to enact a ban on fireworks.
