MOORPARK : House Buyer to Be Chosen by Lottery

Share

Moorpark city officials will hold a lottery next month to find a moderate-income buyer for the last house available under the city’s new first-time home-buyer program.

The 1,326-square-foot, three-bedroom house in the Griffin Campus Hills development next to Moorpark College will be sold for $180,000, far below its market value of $210,000, Councilman Scott Montgomery said.

“They would be getting a $30,000 price break,” he said.

The house is one of five offered this year under the program to provide affordable housing for moderate-income families in Moorpark. In order to qualify, buyers must have moderate incomes. For example, a family of four cannot have a household income of more than $50,000, Montgomery said.

The lottery will give first priority to city residents.

If qualified buyers cannot be found among city residents, officials will give second priority to a city employee. Only then will officials consider Ventura County residents as prospective buyers.

Application forms for the lottery are available at Moorpark City Hall, 799 Moorpark Ave.

Forms must be turned in to city officials by Aug. 10. The lottery is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Aug. 15, prior to a City Council meeting.
