P. M. BRIEFING : Third US Sprint Executive Quits

The architect of US Sprint’s successful bid for a share of a $25-billion federal contract has resigned, the company said today.

Sprint confirmed the resignation of David C. Gergacz, chief operating officer of its government network systems division, but provided no other details. Gergacz, 41, could not be reached for comment.

He is the third key executive to leave Sprint this month.

Clifford R. Hall, who was credited with solving serious billing problems at Sprint, resigned two weeks ago. Jerry W. Cosley, vice president of communications at Sprint and United Telecommunications Inc., also announced his resignation. United Telecom is Sprint’s majority owner.

Earlier this week, Sprint reported a $42-million net operating loss in the second quarter.
