George H. Brown; Longtime Litton Engineer

George H. Brown, a longtime engineer with Litton Data Systems in Van Nuys, has died in Mission Hills. He was 61.

Brown died Wednesday from complications of diabetes, said his wife, Shirlee Brown.

Born June 8, 1929, in Seattle, Brown came to Los Angeles as an infant. He graduated from Fairfax High School in 1947 and served in the Air Force from 1950 to 1954, achieving the rank of staff sergeant.

In 1962, he was hired as an engineer at Litton, where he worked until diabetes forced him to take a disability leave in March, 1989.

Brown was a longtime member of the Sons of Norway Lodge No. 50 in Van Nuys, serving as president from 1984 to 1986.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years; his mother, Florence Steeves of Canoga Park; a brother, Bill Brown of Van Nuys; and a sister, Shirley Reel of Northridge.

Visitation is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Pierce Brothers Valhalla Mortuary, 10621 Victory Blvd., North Hollywood. A funeral service is planned for 11 a.m. Monday at St. David Episcopal Church, 11605 Magnolia Blvd., North Hollywood, with burial to follow at Pierce Brothers Valhalla Memorial Park. Donations can be made in Brown’s name to the American Diabetes Assn. or the National Kidney Foundation.
