A Disney gem you won’t find at your local video store is available free in your living room--if you tune to The Wonderful World of Disney (Sunday at 6 p.m. on KTTV).

“Peter and the Wolf,” an animated short from the mid-’40s, sets composer Sergei Prokofiev’s music to pictures. In this Russian fairy tale, a would-be hunter (who looks a little like a blond Pinocchio) goes after a wolf, armed with only a few harmless friends--and a popgun.

The characters have no dialogue; the music and hoarse-voiced narrator Sterling Holloway do the talking for them. Peter is represented by the string quartet; Sasha the bird by a flute; Sonia the duck by an oboe, and Ivan the cat by a clarinet.

Also on the one-hour program is “Ben and Me,” an animated story about a feisty church mouse who is the brains behind Benjamin Franklin. Amos, according to Disney history, was the real inventor of bifocals and the Franklin stove, and even helped write the Declaration of Independence.
