City Saving Water at 10% Rate, Bradley Says
- Share via
Voluntary water conservation efforts resulted in a 10% cut in consumption in July when weather and population figures are considered, but actual water use has climbed slightly, Mayor Tom Bradley announced Monday.
Bradley made the announcement at a news conference to kick off a new effort to provide Los Angeles residents and businesses a daily accounting of conservation efforts in the face of the fourth year of a statewide drought.
In the three months after Bradley’s March 30 warning that the city could face mandatory rationing, voluntary conservation efforts averaged 13.5% when weather, population, businesses growth and other factors are included in figuring consumption--a statistical process DWP officials call “normalizing.” So far in July, the effort has averaged 10%.
The City Council today is scheduled to consider a proposal by Councilwoman Joan Milke Flores to delay mandatory rationing.
