Sierra Madre : Traffic Counter Approved
A computerized traffic counter that will enable police to conduct traffic studies of busy streets without an officer was approved by the City Council on Tuesday.
The counter automatically registers the speed and frequency of cars in two lanes of traffic. Normally, an officer in an unmarked car records traffic patterns using a radar gun and marking traffic flows by hand, Police Chief Bill Betts said.
The counter, which costs $2,055, will allow the Police Department to investigate more complaints of excessive speed, Betts said.
