Boy Hit by Car in Critical Condition

A 10-year-old Santa Ana boy was listed in critical condition Thursday suffering from injuries received when he darted into the path of an car and was hit, police said.

Bernardo Rodriguez was taken by paramedics to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana on Wednesday night after being struck by a vehicle as he attempted to cross in the 900 block of South Harbor Boulevard at about 9:05 p.m.

The boy’s injuries included trauma to the head, a pelvic fracture and a broken left leg, according to a hospital spokesman.

Police said the driver of the car, who was not cited, apparently did not see the boy, who was crossing in the middle of the street and not at a crosswalk.

Although the incident is still under investigation, police spokeswoman Maureen Thomas said it does not appear that drugs or alcohol were involved.
