In Nina J. Easton’s article “Whither Orion” (July 7), an unnamed producer is quoted as saying, “(Orion) should be making socially relevant movies for older audiences--like ‘Driving Miss Daisy.’ Instead they make ‘Madhouse’ . . . and they don’t do that very well.”

It’s inappropriate to use “Madhouse” as an example of Orion’s wrong-headed thinking. The modestly budgeted comedy, which grossed over $20 million domestically, has made money for the studio; if anything, it’s an example of Orion’s commitment to producing a broad slate of films.

As for “socially relevant” (not to mention wildly successful) films like “Miss Daisy”--shouldn’t they be the goal of every studio?
