Four Los Angeles gang members who allegedly took jewelry worth thousands of dollars from a Robinson’s department store in Escondido were arrested at the Temecula immigration checkpoint, police said.

Robbers entered the North County Fair department store at 8:35 p.m. Thursday, Lt. John Wilson said. One man fired four shots at a Robinson’s security guard, but no injuries were reported. The men stuffed diamonds and other jewels from the counter into pillowcases, Wilson said.

The men fled with an unspecified amount of jewelry in a stolen vehicle, which was found a short distance from the store, police said.

The four were detained by the Border Patrol in another stolen car at the checkpoint on Interstate 15, where Escondido police arrested them at 9:45 p.m. The jewelry was found in the car.

Erik Deshawnn London, 18, of Inglewood was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and armed robbery. Cory Anthony Williams, 25, Ronald Albert Jefferson, 20, and Roderick Kiki Edwards, 21, all of Los Angeles, were arrested on suspicion of armed robbery, Wilson said.

He said police recovered most of the jewels. He said the four men are suspects in similar robberies in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Sacramento and Phoenix.
